Purpose

  • Internal complaints 

  • Risk to Self (how you, specifically, are being treated rather than relating to the treatment of others)

  • More broad/external

  • Risk to Others 

  • Public interest (wider implications for other workers or the public)

Process

  • Set process

  • Right to be accompanied

  • Should be given opportunity to appeal 

  • No set process for investigation of concerns

  • Confidentiality (anonymous)

  • No general right to appeal

Resolution 

  • Results in specific outcome/legal determination eg. an apology; payment

  • Feedback (you may never know the outcome of the whistleblowing concern)
