Accessing Files on the Evercam HDDs

Your Evercam Disk uses a standard format called ext4. Because this format is a bit different from what your computer usually uses, you may need a small helper program to look at the files. It all depends on whether you're using a Windows PC, a Mac, or a Linux machine.

🐧 If You Use Linux

Linux computers can read the disk right away, with no extra steps or tools needed.

  1. Plug in your Evercam Disk.

  2. Your computer should show the disk and its files automatically, just like any other USB drive.

  3. Once you're done, be sure to safely eject the disk before unplugging it!

Note for Advanced Users: If you prefer to use the command line, you can identify the disk with lsblk and mount it with sudo mount /dev/sdX1 /mnt/evercam_hdd.

💻 If You Use Windows

Windows doesn't automatically know how to read ext4 disks, so you'll need a free helper program called a "reader."

  1. Download the Free Tool: We recommend using Ext2Read. It's completely free and safe to use.

  2. How to Use It: This tool lets your Windows computer see the files on the Evercam Disk.

  3. Once the tool is installed, plug in your Evercam Disk and use the Ext2Read program to view your files.

🍎 If You Use macOS (Mac Computer)

A Mac can sense when the disk is plugged in, but it can't read the files without a helper program.

  1. Download the Free Tool: You will need a simple tool called ext4fuse.

  2. How to Install and Use It: This tool teaches your Mac how to view the files on the Evercam Disk.

  3. Once you follow the steps, you'll be able to access your files.

⭐ Important Reminders!

  • Always Eject Safely: When you're finished, always make sure to safely eject or "unmount" the disk from your computer before you unplug it. This prevents the files from getting corrupted.

  • Don't Reformat: Do not reformat or erase the Evercam Disk (HDD).
