360 Camera & App User Guide: Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ answers common questions regarding hardware setup, app connection best practices, BIM overlays, and site walk visibility to help you get the best performance during your captures.

1. App & Connectivity

Q1: Why does my mobile app disconnect while I'm recording a site walk?

Answer:

Disconnections typically occur if your mobile phone screen locks or if you switch to another app (like messaging or email) while a walk is in progress. Because of mobile operating system limits on background data, the app must stay active on your screen to maintain a steady wireless connection with the camera.

Tips for uninterrupted capture:

  • Keep the app open and active on your phone screen throughout the entire duration of your walk.

  • Avoid locking your phone or navigating away to other applications during capture.

  • If you leave the app by mistake, use the app's reconnect feature to resume your session quickly.

Q2: My camera is running hot or shutting down unexpectedly during recording. What should I do?

Answer:

Camera overheating is most frequently caused by using standard or unbranded SD memory cards. 360 video recording requires high-speed data transfer that generic SD cards cannot maintain, causing the camera processor to work harder and overheat.

Recommended Solution:

  • Ensure your camera is equipped with an official, high-speed Insta360 SD card.

  • Allow the camera a few minutes to cool down before resuming capture if it has exceeded safe operating temperatures.

Q3: What should I do if my walk captures remain unstable on site?

Answer:

If you continue to experience hardware instability despite following app best practices and using recommended SD cards, please reach out to your account support team. We can evaluate your current hardware setup and determine if an upgraded camera model (such as the X6) is required for your project environment.

2. BIM Overlays

Q4: How often are BIM overlays updated for my project?

Answer:

BIM overlays are guaranteed to be updated up to 2 times per month. This cadence ensures high precision and proper spatial alignment for all structural models against your captured site walks.

Q5: Why is the BIM overlay temporarily hidden or unavailable for my walk?

Answer:

If our technical quality team detects minor alignment discrepancies between the 3D BIM model and the 360 visual capture, the overlay may be temporarily disabled. This prevents inaccurate visual data from displaying while our team re-aligns the model. The overlay will be restored as soon as the alignment check is complete.

3. Viewing & Gallery Processing

Q6: I just uploaded a site walk. Why isn't it showing up on the project dashboard immediately?

Answer:

For select mission-critical projects and accounts with custom validation requirements, our services team reviews site walks briefly before publishing them to the public gallery.

What to expect:

  • If a captured walk requires quality verification or manual adjustment, it will be safely held until review is complete.

  • Processing and manual activation typically take up to 24–72 hours.

  • Once verified, your walk will automatically appear on your gallery dashboard.
